Two Arrested in Esparto Assault and Vehicle Theft Investigation, Third Suspect Still at Large

ESPARTO, CA  —  “On February 6, 2025, at approximately 3:46 AM, Yolo County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to investigate an assault with a deadly weapon in Esparto, California. The victim’s trailer, which had a Bobcat tractor on it, was stolen by multiple suspects, later identified as Vacaville resident Douglas Hammer, Vallejo resident Robert Feagins, and another unidentified male. The suspects used a Chevrolet Tahoe to haul the stolen trailer away. Additionally, a Honda Crosstour was identified and found to aid the Tahoe during the criminal act.

After the victim was notified that his trailer had been stolen, he began to pursue the suspects. During the pursuit, the Honda Crosstour fired a projectile at the victim’s truck, which the victim believed was a firearm. Fearful for his life, the victim stopped pursuing and retreated. The Tahoe was later abandoned with the stolen items, while the suspects fled the area in the Honda.
An investigation led to early morning search warrants being executed on February 19, 2025, in both Vallejo and Vacaville, California. During the search warrant in Vallejo, executed by the Yolo County Regional SWAT Team, Robert Feagins was seen throwing a loaded handgun onto a neighbor’s roof. Detectives found evidence linking Feagins to the original investigation, including clothing matching descriptions from the surveillance videos, and burglary tools. Additionally, an ounce of methamphetamine was collected from Feagins bedroom.

During execution of the search warrant in Vacaville by The Solano County and Vacaville PD SWAT Teams, Hammer was located and was also arrested after admitting his involvement in the original theft. Hammer was also found with two handguns in his bedroom during the service of the search warrant.

Both suspects were arrested, booked, and housed at the Yolo County Jail on charges of robbery, vehicle theft, conspiracy, and assault with a deadly weapon.
Feagins and Hammer are both convicted felons in the State of California with a lengthy criminal history which includes violent felonies. It gives the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office much pleasure in the apprehension of these two individuals. A search for the third suspect continues as neither of the suspects wanted to cooperate.

The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend sincere gratitude to the Solano County SWAT Team, Vacaville PD SWAT Team, West Sacramento Police Detectives, Yolo County District Attorney’s Office, FBI Safe Streets Task Force, Vallejo Police SWAT Team, and the Yolo County Regional SWAT Team for their invaluable assistance during the investigation and the execution of the search warrants. Their coordination, expertise, and dedication to public safety were instrumental in the successful resolution of this case, and their support was deeply appreciated in ensuring justice was served.”
