Juvenile Suspect’s Online School Shooting Threat Debunked

DOYLE, CA — A Lassen County juvenile’s threat to commit a shooting at an area charter school was ultimately found not to be credible, according to authorities.

In a press release, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office announced that they had begun an investigation on the afternoon of Wednesday, Feb. 19, into an alleged threat to carry out a shooting at Long Valley Charter School in Doyle.

The threat was made over social media by a juvenile individual, authorities said.

Deputies responded to the school and spoke with staff and concerned parents, ultimately determining that the threat had been made from off campus and outside of school hours.

Deputies later spoke with the juvenile suspect and their parent, ultimately finding that the juvenile did not have the means to carry out the shooting and did not have access to firearms. The juvenile also expressed remorse over the incident, according to the sheriff’s office.

The case has since been referred to the Lassen County Probation Department and the school is conducting its own internal investigation, authorities said.
