Two Arrested for Allegedly Posing as Law Enforcement and Harassing Public

FRESNO, CA — Fresno police have reportedly arrested two people for allegedly posing as law enforcement officers and harassing members of the public for social media clout.

According to a press release by the Fresno Police Department, their office began receiving calls on Wednesday, Feb. 26, regarding two men allegedly dressed as ICE agents and harassing people at local businesses.

The callers reported that these men were also filming their confrontations with people, police said.

Responding officers reportedly located the two men outside a business in the River Park Shopping Center. Both were allegedly wearing tactical vests with patches obscured in such a way as to suggest they said “Police” and “ICE.”

Police say that the two suspects had gone to various businesses while posing as law enforcement officials and filming their confrontations with people to upload to social media.

In one instance, the suspects allegedly claimed to be conducting an investigation and requested access to specific business documents, police said.

Both suspects were arrested on suspicion of impersonating a police officer. They were cited for the charges and released.

“As their actions were done simply to gain attention on their personal social media pages, we will not be releasing their names or other information,” Fresno Police Lieutenant Bill Dooley wrote in the press release.
