“Small Amount” of Marijuana? South Carolina Man Busted in Auburn with 21 Bags and Counterfeit Adderall

“Small Amount” of Marijuana? South Carolina Man Busted in Auburn with 21 Bags and Counterfeit Adderall

AUBURN, CA  —  “On March 9, 2025, Auburn PD officers conducted a traffic stop for some good ol’ fashioned California Vehicle Code violations.

The driver, 41-year-old Travis Mack of South Carolina, assured officers he had just a small amount of marijuana… Turns out, “small” is a relative term—because 21 bags is enough to make even Snoop Dogg raise an eyebrow. In reality, it was more like Costco-sized quantities. In addition to the marijuana, Officers located nearly 1000 counterfeit adderall pills that tested presumptively positive for methamphetamines.

After further investigation, it appears Mack had plans to take his mobile pharmacy across state lines. Unfortunately for him, those travel plans have been postponed with a final destination to the Placer County Jail (No bail).

Now, Before Someone Says It… Yes, Marijuana is Legal in California.
However, just like driving, there are rules. And believe it or not, “I thought it was just a small amount” isn’t a valid excuse when you’re rolling around with 21 bags.

What’s Legal?
You can possess up to one ounce of marijuana (or 8 grams of concentrate) if you’re 21 or older.

What’s Not Legal?
Selling without a license (Spoiler: Mack was not licensed).
Driving with an open container (Your cupholder is for coffee, not contraband).
Transporting it across state lines (California law doesn’t come with you on vacation).

Marijuana laws exist to keep things legal, safe, and regulated. So if you’re thinking of getting into the business, maybe start with a permit, a storefront, and an actual tax ID—not a duffel bag.

The distribution of illegal narcotics poses a serious threat to our communities. Auburn PD remains committed to keeping illegal substances off the streets and holding those accountable who attempt to distribute them.

Moral of the Story?

If you’re hauling illegal substances in Auburn, or across state lines, maybe—just maybe—don’t.

If you’re unsure about the law, maybe don’t pack 21 bags of anything.

And if your plans involve trafficking narcotics? Make better life choices.

Special thanks to Placer County Sheriff’s Office for the K9 assist, and of course, a heartfelt thank you to the Placer County Jail staff for providing top-tier accommodations for our guest.”
