San Jose Police Arrest Man in Connection with Two Sexual Assaults in Two Days

SAN JOSE, CA —  “On February 27, 2025, at approximately 9:30 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a report of an attempted sexual assault that occurred in the 5200 block of Hellyer Avenue. The adult female survivor met the adult male suspect in the area of Story Road and Knox Avenue. The survivor voluntarily entered the suspect’s vehicle. They made a stop to retrieve something from her home and continued to the area of Hellyer Avenue near Embedded Way. During the drive to that location, the suspect mentioned he had a firearm with him but did not brandish it. When they arrived at the destination, the suspect consumed a suspected controlled substance. The survivor attempted to leave, and the suspect violently attacked and sexually assaulted her. The survivor was able to get away from the suspect and flag down a citizen who then called police.

SJPD Sexual Assault Investigations Unit Detectives immediately began a comprehensive investigation into the incident. During the course of the investigation, Detectives discovered a similar incident had occurred a day prior. Detectives identified the suspect in both cases as Lamont Carter, who was a registered sex offender.

On February 26, 2025 at approximately 5:28 PM, Officers responded to a report of a sexual assault in the 300 block of North Fifth Street with an adult male suspect and a different adult female survivor. The suspect met the survivor, who agreed to get in the car with the suspect to talk. The suspect attempted to kiss the survivor several times, but she refused and wanted to leave. While she attempted to leave, the suspect kept the vehicle doors locked. The suspect battered and sexually assaulted the survivor and threatened her with a firearm. Eventually, the survivor was able to escape and get help.

On February 28, 2025, SAIU Detectives with the assistance of the Special Operations Covert Response Unit, apprehended Suspect Carter in the city of San José. The suspect was later booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for multiple crimes including sexual battery, criminal threats, and false imprisonment.
