San Jose Police Arrest Man for Alleged Theft, Narcotics Possession

SAN JOSE, CA —  Officers with the San Jose Police Department recently arrested an individual for allegedly shoplifting from a Target store over the weekend.

According to a press release by the San Jose Police Department, officers responded to a reported theft at a Target store on the 400 block of N. Capitol Avenue on the afternoon of Saturday, March 3.

According to police, an unknown individual had entered the store and removed theft security devices from multiple items before bypassing all points of sale.

Officers working an Organized Retail Theft Detail assignment in the area took the suspect into custody as he exited the store, police said.

Authorities identified the suspect as Derek Pitts.

During a search conducted incident to arrest, officers found methamphetamine in his possession. Pitts was transported and booked into the Santa Clara County jail on charges related to theft and possession of a controlled substance, according to police.

The stolen merchandise was returned to the business.
