Mammoth Lakes Police Respond to Disturbance, Officer-Involved Shooting Under Investigation

“OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING IN MAMMOTH LAKES, CA, AFTER DISTURBANCE CALL – CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE CASE BI-LA2025-00051

March 7, 2025 – On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at approximately 11:40 AM, Mammoth Lakes Police officers responded to a report of a disturbance near the Mammoth Lakes Branch Library, located at 400 Sierra Park Road. Dispatch received reports of a man, possibly intoxicated, throwing rocks at passing vehicles.

Officers arrived on the scene at approximately 11:41 AM and encountered 39-year-old Jesus Corona Uribe of Mammoth Lakes. Uribe was armed with multiple rocks and did not comply with officers’ commands. He then ran toward the officers while still holding the rocks, prompting an officer-involved shooting.

Following the officer-involved shooting, lifesaving measures were administered and medical aid responded to the scene. Uribe was transported to Mammoth Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

In accordance with California Government Code section 12525.3, the California Department of Justice responded to investigate the circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting. Per Mammoth Lakes Police Department policy, when an officer is involved in a shooting, they are placed on paid administrative leave.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the Mammoth Lakes Police Department is fully cooperating with the California Department of Justice and the Mono County District Attorney’s Office.

We understand this incident is unprecedented in Mammoth Lakes, and we, like our community, feel the impact and concern for Mr. Uribe, his family, and anyone affected by this incident. The Mammoth Lakes Police Department plans to release a Critical Incident Debrief video regarding the officer-involved shooting.”
