PIONEER, CA  —  “On 2/26/2025, at 9:17 PM, the Sheriff’s Office received a call from a resident on Meadowmont Drive in Pioneer reporting that he returned home and found his dog deceased. The resident believed the dog had been shot by an unknown suspect.

Deputies responded to the area and initiated an investigation. A small wound was located on the dog which could be consistent with the entry of a pellet or small caliber bullet. The dog was collected by the responding deputies so a necropsy could be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

A neighborhood canvas was performed and no leads were generated. One resident in the area believes they heard a yelp around 6 PM, but no shot was heard.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking residents in the area to check their home security camera footage for people or vehicles of interest. Anybody with information is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office.
