SAN RAFAEL, CA — Police arrested two juveniles in connection with an armed robbery that occurred March 17 on a bike trail.
The suspect, who are 16 and 17 years old, were booked into Marin County Juvenile Hall. A third juvenile suspect who fled remains at large.
Shortly after 7 p.m. the SRPD dispatch center began receiving reports about an armed robbery. The victim was robbed on a bicycle trail that parallels U.S. Highway 101 and
Lincoln Avenue, near Paloma Avenue.
Officers arrived at the scene within minutes and obtained descriptions of the suspects, San
Rafael police said in a prepared statement.
“It was learned that one of the three suspect used a handgun during the robbery,” officials said.
Additional officers were dispatched to search for the suspects. Two of the suspects were found near Fourth and Hetherton streets. Officers recognized one of the suspects who had a
prior arrest in February involving another robbery.
As the two suspects were being detained, one of them was observed attempting to hide
stolen property behind a tree.
Concealed among the stolen items, officers found a loaded handgun. The firearm with no serial number is a “ghost gun” which is illegal to own or
possess.
The 16-year-old was booked for felony armed robbery, various firearm charges, and conspiracy to commit a crime. The 17-year-old was booked for felony armed robbery, and
conspiracy to commit a crime.
The victim was not injured and their stolen property was returned. The investigation of the robbery is ongoing.
