Lockdown Lifted at San Pasqual Elementary After False Firearm Alarm; One Arrested for Child Endangerment

WINTERHAVEN, CA — “On Friday, March 14, 2025, at approximately 1257 hours, Deputies from the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office – Winterhaven station, responded to the San Pasqual elementary school regarding a report of a potential firearm being on campus. School staff had received reports claiming that an elementary aged student may have been in possession of a firearm in their backpack. While no direct threats were reported, the school was placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure until the situation was deemed safe. School officials immediately sent out digital notifications to parents advising them of the lockdown situation.
During the investigation, it was discovered that a student had a photo on their cellular phone of the student holding a firearm.
Deputies, assisted by Quechan Police department and a Customs and Border Protections firearms detection K9, conducted a thorough search of the entire school premises for any firearms. After completing a comprehensive search, no firearms were located, and the lockdown was lifted. Students were safely released to their parents, guardians, or designated rides.
During the investigation, one individual was placed under arrest for child endangerment and booked into the Imperial County Jail. This case remains an active and open investigation.
