HALF MOON BAY, CA — A 37-year-old man was arrested early Saturday morning in Half Moon Bay following the alleged assault of a family member and a prolonged standoff with law enforcement, according to authorities.
In a press release, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office reported that, at approximately 6 p.m. on Friday, March 21, a 67-year-old woman reported to the Half Moon Bay substation that her son had strangled her at their residence.
The woman had visible injuries and was provided medical care and support services, authorities said.
Deputies identified the suspect as Robert A. Kimuracuellar, whom authorities say was under the influence of drugs and experiencing a possible mental health crisis when he barricaded himself inside the home.
Multiple law enforcement and emergency response units responded to the scene, including the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, CARES, PERT, CAL FIRE, AMR, and police departments from Belmont, San Bruno, and San Mateo.
Negotiators attempted for several hours to de-escalate the situation. Ultimately, when a SWAT team responded, Kimuracuellar exited the home without incident.
He was taken to a local hospital as a precaution, medically cleared, and booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse causing injury.
