Prolific Offender Arrested for Another Vehicle Theft

PIEDMONT, CARobert Maynard, 40, of Oakland, allegedly stole another car.

Maynard is a prolific offender with dozens of prior arrests and convictions including vehicle thefts. He was
arrested again on March 17 for vehicle theft.

An automated license plate reader alerted Piedmont police to the presence of a stolen car. It
was detected near the intersection of Moraga Avenue and Maxwelton Road. The car was
reported stolen in nearby Oakland.

Piedmont officers detained Maynard who was parking the car on Moraga Avenue. A search
was conducted. Officers found a lock pick they believe he used for the theft. They also found
drug paraphernalia in his possession.

Maynard was placed under arrest and taken to Alameda County Santa Rita Jail. He was on
probation for weapons-related conviction at the time of his latest arrest. A search of his
backpack turned up ammunition, but no firearm.

Maynard was booked on suspicion of receiving a stolen motor vehicle, and taking a vehicle
without owner’s consent.

He was also booked for possession of ammunition, burglar’s tools,
and drug paraphernalia. Multiple charges subsequently filed against Maynard include
receiving a stolen motor vehicle.

Since 2013, Maynard has been arrested 48 times. His prior arrests pertained to vehicle thefts,
possession of illicit drugs, burglaries, robberies, thefts, among other offenses.

Last year Maynard was arrested seven times. He was arrested three times in 2023, five times
in 2022, three times in 2021, and nine times in 2020. Maynard was arrested once in 2018 and
once in 2017. He was arrested four times in 2016. He was arrested once in 2015. Maynard
was arrested 12 times in 2014, and twice in 2013.
