Santa Rosa Man Arrested for Alleged Possession of Ghost Gun

SANTA ROSA, CA — “On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at approximately 11:56 pm, officers from the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) were dispatched to a report of subjects in the parking lot near the 2300 block of Corby Ave., playing loud music. The music was reportedly coming from a gray Honda with two occupants. Officers located the vehicle and contacted the occupants. Upon contact, the right front passenger exited the vehicle and began briskly walking away from the officers. One of the officers called out to him to stop and he failed to stop. The officer then saw the male move his right hand away from his waistband and reveal a black handgun. The officer quickly ran toward the male to stop him. The male was physically detained, and the 9mm firearm secured.
The firearm located on the male was a privately manufactured firearm (PMF), commonly referred to as a “ghost gun.” These firearms do not have serial numbers and are not registered with the Department of Justice (DOJ). The firearm was loaded with four rounds of ammunition in the magazine.
The male was identified as 19-year-old Santa Rosa resident, Rene Philip Ramirez-Barrera. He was arrested and booked on the following charges:
- 25850(a) PC- Carrying a loaded firearm in a public place
- 25400(C)(6) PC- Possession of unregistered firearm
