A vehicle pursuit that started in American Canyon ended in an arrest in Vallejo early Tuesday morning. At around 1:00 A.M., an officer from the American Canyon Police observed a red Dodge sedan traveling at an excessive speed on Highway 29 near Donaldson Way. The vehicle’s erratic lane movements raised suspicions of impaired driving. An attempt to stop the vehicle was unsuccessful, prompting a chase into Vallejo.
Throughout the pursuit, the driver, later identified as 19-year-old Samuel Cortes of Vallejo, engaged in risky behaviors such as speeding up to 80 miles per hour, running red lights, and momentarily stopping before accelerating again. The chase concluded when police executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) to safely disable the vehicle on Magazine Street and Lincoln Avenue in Vallejo.
Cortes was taken into custody without further incident. Officers found an open bottle of whiskey in the car, confirming suspicions of alcohol influence. He was charged with felony evading and driving under the influence, and was booked into Napa County Jail.
