Tehama County Sheriff’s Office Advances Hilaria Marmolejo’s Missing Person Case to Homicide Investigation

Update
On September 12, 2016, Hilaria Marmolejo was reported missing by her mother to the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office. It was determined Marmolejo was last seen in Tehama County in the Corning area on August 27th, 2016.
The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office took over the missing person’s investigation. The missing person’s investigation continued in efforts to locate Marmolejo for several years. Approximately four years ago the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes unit transitioned this investigation from a missing person’s case to a homicide investigation.
During the course of this active and on-going investigation, investigators learned all contact and activity with Marmolejo ceased on August 27, 2016. This included all contact with friends, co- workers, and family, including her two small children. Activity also ceased on her bank account, EBT card, telephone, and social media accounts. Investigators learned Marmolejo was active on her phone and social media sites daily before she went missing.
The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office has conducted re-interviews and new interviews of witnesses identified in this case. Additional evidence has surfaced during the investigation, including new technology, which has been very helpful. The Sheriff’s Office has been partnering with federal partners, including Homeland Security and the FBI who have provided assistance and technology in this investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office received tips and evidence suggesting the location of the remains of Marmolejo. As a result, numerous agencies have assisted us in searching these locations. Due to the vast search areas, efforts are still continuing to find Marmolejo’s remains.

Based on these efforts the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office has identified a suspect in relation to the disappearance and murder of Marmolejo. Preliminary meetings have occurred between the Tehama County District Attorney’s Office and the Sheriff’s Office regarding this investigation. We are hopeful of having a case submitted to the DA’s office in the future for prosecution of our suspect.
The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office wants to convey to Marmolejo’s mother the search for her daughter continues. We are dedicated to continuing this investigation until justice is served.
