Sheriff’s Office: Wanted Suspect Wounded in Officer-Involved Shooting in Redding
“On Wednesday, March 26th, 2025, at approximately 4:09 PM, the Shasta County Multi-Agency Officer Involved Critical Incident Response Team (OICIRT) responded to an officer involved shooting, involving the Redding Police Department.
Detectives learned prior to the shooting, at approximately 4:00 PM, Redding Police Officers, who were in full uniform and driving marked police vehicles, attempted to contact a male adult who was seated in a vehicle, parked in the Safeway shopping center located on East Cypress Avenue. The driver’s identity was known to the officers, and they knew he had an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest.
Verbal commands were given to the driver in an attempt to place him under arrest. As one of the officers was approaching the vehicle, the driver forced a violent confrontation and accelerated the vehicle toward the officer, resulting in an officer involved shooting. The driver continued to accelerate and fled through the parking lot toward Lowes in an attempt to prevent his arrest. Officers pursued the vehicle as it continued across East Cypress Avenue and drove south onto Alfreda Way. The driver eventually crashed into an unoccupied parked vehicle near the intersection of Alfreda Way and Downard Lane.
Officers contacted the driver and realized he had been struck during the shooting. Officers immediately rendered medical aid. The driver was transported to a hospital and is still receiving medical treatment.
None of the involved officers sustained any injuries. The identity of the suspect and the involved officers are being withheld at this time. Body camera footage of the incident is part of the investigation and will be released within 45 days, pursuant to California Law. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.”
