FRESNO, CA  —  A Fresno man has been arrested for alleged attempted murder in connection with a shooting at a local nightclub.

According to a press release from the Fresno Police Department, shortly after midnight on Sunday, March 30, officers conducting a traffic stop near the Switch Nightclub in Fresno heard gunfire coming from the parking lot.

As officers arrived at the location, they were informed that a suspect had fled on foot, firing at security guards and patrons, police said.

During the initial investigation, officers were advised that an adult male had arrived at a nearby hospital after being the victim of a shooting.

Detectives from the Felony Assault Unit responded and determined that McDonough and the victim had been involved in a verbal argument in the parking lot, and that McDonough had allegedly drawn a handgun and fired at the victim.

Police say that an armed security guard returned fire, striking McDonough. Officers recovered the firearm used by McDonough, along with clothing he discarded while fleeing.

After receiving medical treatment, McDonough was booked into Fresno County jail on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed firearm, and carrying a loaded firearm.

The shooting victim remains hospitalized in stable condition, police said.
