A Santa Barbara man was injured late on the morning of March 30 when he became involved in an altercation at a local homeless shelter.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. on March 30, officers with the Santa Barbara Police Department
responded to a reported stabbing at the eastside city location of the PATH homeless shelter.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers promptly located the victim with a puncture wound to the neck.

“When officers arrived, they found the victim, who had sustained a stab wound to his neck from
a ballpoint pen,” said SBPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Bryan Kerr.

The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Jeffrey Wojcik of Santa Barbara, was still on scene and
was taken into custody without incident.

According to Kerr, the two men were known to each other and had a documented history of
verbal confrontations.

“According to the victim, Wojcik initiated a verbal argument with him and it quickly escalated, with Wojcik using a ballpoint pen to stab him in the neck,” Kerr said.
The victim was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for medical treatment.

Wojcik was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon with his bail set at $50,000.
