Escondido Police Arrest Gang Member with Assault Rifle and Drugs During Crime Suppression Patrol

ESCONDIDO, CA — “On 03/27/25, officers with the Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) unit, and the Crime Suppression Team (CST), were conducting extra patrol in the 600 block of W 3rd Ave. CST is a newly formed team of officers, that was recently granted by City Council, that focuses on proactive crime enforcement in various areas of the city with efforts to reduce crime and make Escondido a safer place.
The area mentioned above has been known for drug sales, with the source being numerous RV’s and other vehicles parked in the area, which lead to the opening of a COPPS project with the emphasis on reducing overall crime in that area. During their patrols, CST and COPPS officers contacted a documented gang member and convicted felon, who was in possession of an unregistered AR-15 style assault rifle, a loaded revolver, along with over 250 grams of Marijuana, as well as Fentanyl and Methamphetamine. The man was arrested on 14 felony drug and firearm offenses and was booked into county jail.”
