REDDING – The boyfriend assaulted his girlfriend in their RV trailer before fleeing for a while from police.
The incident occurred on August 28 around 5:30 p.m. The woman’s sister called the SCSO to report an assault.
Deputies responded to 11243 Quartz Hill Road, where 47-year-old Freddie Dean Cox reportedly choked his girlfriend. He fled before authorities showed up.
The couple shared an RV parked on her sister’s property. The victim kicked Cox off of her as he strangled her. He then twisted her foot and held a butcher knife to her neck.
Later that evening, at 8:30 p.m., another 911 call to the SCSO reported that Cox was back, “causing a disturbance.” This time when deputies arrived, they found both Cox and the victim in the RV.
Upon their announcement, the victim came out of the RV. According to KRCR News, Cox shouted to deputies, “What do you want? Go ahead, shoot me, go ahead and shoot me.”
They didn’t shoot, and Cox eventually exited with the encouragement of K-9 Fritz.
Cox’s charges include inflicting corporal injury, assault with a deadly weapon, threats and resisting arrest. His bail is $51,000.
