PALO ALTO – The PAPD asks the public to be vigilant in the downtown area after several robberies over the weekend.
According to Janine De la Vega, Public Affairs Manager with the PAPD, “On Saturday, September 15, 2018, our 24-hour dispatch center received a call at 1:42 p.m. that a street robbery had occurred two minutes prior in the 400 block of Kingsley Avenue.”
Police arrived to find a woman in her fifties and her young daughter had just been robbed by a young man who had covered his mouth with a bandana in order to hide their identity from local surveillance systems as well as the victim’s ability to identify specific features that would help law enforcement identify the two suspects.
The two female victims were walking along Kingsley Avenue approaching Waverley Street in the downtown area. Suddenly the assailant with a red bandana started running towards them demanding they hand over their property.
The suspect ran with full force knocking over both women to the ground. He then took their belongings before fleeing to an awaiting vehicle driven by a second suspect.
The vehicle is a dark or red- colored sedan. De la Vega said, “The first suspect as a dark-skinned man who was either black or Polynesian,. He is in his mid-twenties, approximately six feet tall weighing 200 pounds.”
The “dark-skinned” second suspect wore a red bandana across his face. Police have released a sketch of the main suspect who knocked over the two women.
