WEST COVINA – A woman’s leisurely shopping afternoon was seriously interrupted when a man stole her cellphone from her back pocket, while she was loading her purchases into the car. The suspect promptly fled. West Covina PD made quick response to the 2800 block of Eastland Center Drive at 5:00 PM, yesterday as the sun set.
The anonymous female victim described being pushed from behind, while the suspect yanked her cellphone from her back pocket and fled on foot through the Eastland Shopping Center parking lot.
Later that night, as the victim’s husband checked-in with his wife’s Life 360 phone app from her wayward cellphone, it highlighted a location in the city of Claremont.
Claremont PD gave immediate response to the 800 block of South Indian Hill Blvd. There, they entered a coffee shop and encountered the suspect matching the victim’s description. They took possession of the stolen phone from Dean Dwight Taylor (23) of Upland.
Taylor was taken into custody, driven straight to West Covina PD, and booked for suspicion of robbery. Aptly so, he is being held on $50,000 bail.
