Sheriffs Seek Info on Child Molester

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Detectives have issued a media alert calling for any member of the public with information as to the activities or possible victims of Terence Paul Stevens, 52, during his tenure as a youth soccer coach in the area to come forward and report same.

During the late 1980s Stevens was a well-regarded soccer coach in the Lompoc area just north of the city of Santa Barbara. According to SBSD Public Information Officer Drew Sugars’ media announcement issued today, Stevens relocated to San Diego several years later and “continued working with young soccer players as an AYSO and youth league soccer coach.”  In 2008, while in Yuma, Arizona, Stevens was arrested and convicted for Sexual Conduct with a Minor.

While he was in custody in Yuma, Sugars said, “two local male adults have come forward” with details of sexual contact by Stevens when they were minor children being coached by Stevens.  Pursuant to those reports, Stevens was extradited to Santa Barbara County Jail to face 17 felony counts of Lewd Acts with a Child, Oral Copulation of a Minor, and Sodomy with a Minor. “Since his extradition, the investigation has continued, and we now seek any additional information from the public who may have had contact with him,” Sugars declared in a media release including several photos of Stevens from the period in question.
