Grover Beach Police officers arrested an Oceano man for allegedly breaking into vehicles this morning.
Officers received a call from an off-duty San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s deputy who saw a suspicious person tampering with parked vehicles in the area. When they responded, officers discovered Matthew J. Ortega, 21, inside a vehicle that did not belong to him and took him into custody.
During the subsequent investigation, officers determined the suspect was responsible for breaking into numerous vehicles in the Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach and Oceano areas during the overnight hours. Police also recovered some stolen property and the GBPD detectives are conducting further follow up investigations in conjunction with other local law enforcement agencies to identify additional victims.
The Grover Beach Police Department is asking all witnesses and any potential victims of a recent vehicle burglary to contact Detective Michael Hollis at (805) 473-4570.
