Trio arrested on drug and weapons charges in Milpitas

Three people, including two convicted felons, were arrested in Milpitas last week for possession of drugs and loaded firearms.

According to Milpitas police, an officer conducted a traffic stop just after midnight on February 21 in the 1200 block of South Park Victoria Drive. Police say the officer detected the smell of marijuana as he approached the 2001 Honda Accord.

A search of the vehicle turned up several grams of marijuana, which was found in the possession of one of the vehicle’s three occupants. The officer also spotted the butt of a firearm poking out from underneath the driver’s seat, authorities say.

Additional officers arrived on scene and continued to search the vehicle. In all, three firearms were confiscated, along with ammunition and drugs, including oxycodone and hydrocodone, officials say.

A quick police check indicated that two of the vehicle’s occupants, Harjeet Singh Bala, 21, and Amanjeet Singh Gill, 35, are convicted felons who are prohibited by law to possess firearms.

Bala was arrested for being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, transporting an illegal substance, and possession of a controlled substance. Gill was arrested for being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition and for possession of a firearm with a prior violent felony. The third suspect, 30-year-old Ivette Sanjuan, was arrested for providing a false name to police. All three were booked into Santa Clara County Jail.
