An Anaheim man who attempted to rob a local bank on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day found that police were still on duty. His holiday thus ended with being sent to jail.
The Bank Of America at 1818 South Euclid Street in Anaheim had been closed for the federal holiday. As such, when a bank employee monitoring a live security-video feed of the bank’s interior noticed a person moving about inside, the employee notified authorities. Anaheim Police responded and, upon arriving at the building, saw that its front door had been forced and remained open.
Inside, they saw the suspect, Luis Fernando Bautista, a 29-year-old transient from Anaheim, a city in Orange County better known for the Disneyland theme parks and resort area. He had been attempting to open the bank’s vault, offices and drawers.
Apart from Bautista, bona fide bank clients had also entered the facility, because the suspect had left the door open. The potential Bank Of America customers all safely exited the building, the Anaheim Police Department said in a statement, and no bank employees were on site at the time of the burglary.
The January 21st incident ended with Anaheim police arresting Bautista without incident and booking him into the Anaheim Detention Facility. His bail was set at $20 000.
In an effort to gain better understanding of the burglary, city police detectives would like to speak with anyone who may have entered the Bank Of America on the afternoon of the Martin Luther King Jr Day holiday.
