Goleta – A reasonable person would think that anyone on probation—indicating that such an individual has a history of criminal activity for which they’ve been arrested and convicted—would be circumspect in their daily activities in order to avoid further contact with the justice system.
18-year-old Goleta resident Alan Castillo does not appear to be that “reasonable person,” based upon the circumstances leading to his March 18th arrest.
According to Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Kelly Hoover, it was on that date that SBSD deputies, while conducting a probation search of Castillo’s residence, “discovered what appeared to be a Butane Honey Oil lab” on the premises. The cops immediately called for the assistance of the SBSD Cannabis Compliance Team. When they arrived on the scene, it was determined that the “Honey Oil” lab was “not currently active,” but had been formerly operational.
Once the lab and associated paraphernalia were rendered safe, the equipment was seized. Deputies then continued their probation search of the residence and discovered a cache of ammunition stored in close proximity to the makeshift lab. The ensuing investigation indicated that the subject of the probation search had been manufacturing Honey Oil and was the owner of the ammunition.
Deputies made contact with Castillo late at approximately 5:40 p.m. and took him into custody without incident. He was transported to Santa Barbara County Jail, where he was booked on charges of manufacturing a controlled substance, being a felon in possession of ammunition, and violation of probation terms. He remains in custody on a no-bail hold.
