Fernando Jaramillo Llamas was arrested on murder charges after his wife’s relatives found her dead in her apartment on Friday, May 24, 2019.
Maria Teresa Murillo Rojas, the deceased wife of Jaramillo Llamas, was discovered around 7:00 AM at Cornerstone Village Apartments at 1021 South Standard Avenue in Santa Ana. “The preliminary field investigation revealed the decedent was a 26-year old Hispanic female who resided in the apartment with her 25-year old husband, their 1-year old daughter, and the decedent’s extended family,” the release read.
Jaramillo Llamas reportedly left before his wife was found. He was also allegedly “out on bail for an on-going criminal proceeding,” the release continued. “Evidence at the scene indicated foul play.” He was named a suspect in the death of his wife.
Less than two hours later, police responded to Aluminum Precision Metals at 523 East Alton Avenue, Jaramillo Llamas’ “last known place of employment,” where a suicide attempt was reported. Jaramillo Llamas fled the scene in a black Volkswagen Passat before police could make contact with him, but he was located again at 11:14 AM while driving in the area of Grand Avenue and Interstate 5.
Police pursued him until Jaramillo Llamas crashed his car at Grand Avenue and Dyer Road. He exited the vehicle and tried to flee on foot, but police caught up and detained him. He was transported to a local trauma center for the treatment of his injuries.
Jaramillo Llamas was booked on charges of murder, violation of a domestic violence court order, and child endangerment.
