San Luis Obispo woman escapes rapist
A San Luis Obispo woman narrowly escaped the grasp of a rapist last Thursday evening.
According San Luis Obispo police, the female victim was walking alone near the intersection of Hathway and Longview around 11:40 p.m. when she noticed a vehicle drive by her slowly and then make a U-turn. The vehicle, according to the victim, is described as a small, dark, older model car. Police say the female did not know where the vehicle went after it made a U-turn.
According to the victim, a few minutes later she was walking on Slack Street near Longview when a male came up behind her and knocked her to the ground. The victim told police the suspect then grabbed at her underwear while she was on the ground. She told police she kicked at the suspect until he moved backwards. She said as he moved backwards, she was able to get up and run away from the suspect.
According to police, the victim ran to a nearby friend’s house and the suspect did not follow her. Police say she sustained a minor injury during the attack.
The suspect is described as a white or light-skinned Hispanic male in his 20s. He is described as having an athletic build and is between 5’6” and 5”8” tall. He was wearing a dark colored long-sleeve shirt and blue jeans. He was also wearing a dark-colored beanie style hat.
After a thorough search of the area, several police officers from SLOPD and the Cal Poly University Police Department were not able to locate the suspect. Police say the victim is not sure if the suspicious car she saw prior to the attack is related.
