Police Still Seeking Suspect in Indio’s First Homicide of the Year
INDIO – The Indio Police Department is still seeking witnesses for the murder of a recently identified victim.
The Riverside County Coroner’s office announced today that the homicide victim in last week’s shooting in Indio was Robert Aaron Lujan. Police officers found Lujan lying in the parking lot in an apartment complex in the 82-400 block of Requa Street around 2:48 AM on April 4 after responding to a report of gunshots. The caller reported hearing several shots. The victim was found injured, with a gunshot wound to the chest area. He was transported to John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries less than hour later. His identity was unknown at the time of his death.
According to The Desert Sun, Lujan was the first Indio homicide victim for 2012 and the forth in the Coachella Valley. Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron stated in an interview that the police would be going door-to-door, despite the fact that everyone was likely asleep during the crime. He felt they had “nothing to lose” by interviewing everyone as they had little to go on.
There were no other injuries in the crime and police have no information on motives for the shooting or any suspects, occurring to a press release. The Indio Police Department is hoping the public will come forward with further information. Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to call the Indio Police Department at (760) 391-4057 or to call Coachella Valley Crime Stoppers at (760) 341-STOP with anonymous information.
