Ventura – City of Ventura Police Department patrol units responded to a 911 Emergency call early in the evening of August 7th reporting “a stabbing victim.” According to VPD spokesman Sgt. Tim Ferrill, when cops arrived at the downtown Ventura location, they found “a 55-year-old male suffering from a non-life-threatening stab wound to his arm.”
The victim was treated on the scene by Ventura City Fire Department paramedics and was then taken to a local area hospital. At that point, an investigation into the incident began in earnest, leading to the identification of 24-year-old Ventura residents Adrian Villagomez and Athena Avila.
Witnesses to the violence indicated that Villagomez and Avila had stolen the victim’s personal property, and when the victim resisted, Villagomez stabbed him with a knife.
With witnesses providing information as to the direction in which the suspects fled following the attack, the cops had little trouble identifying “a nearby apartment complex” where Villagomez and Avila had been seen entering a living unit.
Officers approached the apartment in question and upon confirming the suspects were inside, suggested that they surrender themselves. That notion was ignored, whereupon “officers went inside” and made contact with Villagomez and Avila, promptly taking them into custody.
Both Villagomez and Avila were transported to Ventura County Jail, where they were booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, conspiracy, and resisting arrest. Villagomez was also booked on an outstanding felony warrant issued pursuant to a post release offender violation involving prior convictions for robbery, resisting arrest, and felony drug possession.
