CHP Officer Arrested for Burglary, Criminal Threats, Brandishing Firearm

SANTA ROSA — A California Highway Patrol officer has been arrested on suspicion of burglary, making criminal threats and brandishing a firearm. That’s in addition to vandalism, public intoxication and resisting arrest.
The CHP officer is accused of threatening a neighbor on the 4700 block of Parktrail Drive. The officer Jeremy Finnerty, 47, was on leave due to a work-related injury when this incident was reported.
On the night of August 16, Santa Rosa PD responded to a report of a residential burglary. The caller advised police that the burglar was possibly carrying a firearm.
Officers located Finnerty outside the residence standing in the driveway, angry and yelling expletives. He was allegedly drunk at the time and carrying a firearm.
Additional officers were dispatched. Officers were able to convince Finnerty to surrender the weapon. However, he apparently resisted being arrested.
Finnerty is accused of threatening to kill his neighbor and then forcing his way into his neighbor’s home. The neighbor fled from the home.
He was eventually taken into custody by a SWAT team. The home was subsequently searched, but only a broken door was found, which Finnerty is suspected of doing.
The suspect was booked at Sonoma County Jail, where he was held for release on $50,000 bond.
