HOLLISTER — An 18-year-old man has been arrested after being caught hiding inside the vehicle he allegedly broke into.
Just before 11 PM on Tuesday, August 20, officers arrived on the 200 block of McCarthy Street to investigate reports of a suspicious person checking car doors. A caller also reported hearing a car door slam shut.
When the officers noticed a bag full of recyclables leaning up against a van, they looked into the vehicle and discovered James Infante hiding inside.
Infante initially tried to tell them the van belonged to a family member that lived nearby, but neither of these things were true.
Officers then searched Infante and found several tools often used for burglary, particularly vehicle burglary. He was arrested and booked on charges of possession of burglary tools, prowling, and tampering with a vehicle.
