Man Charged with Attempted Murder for Shooting at Convenience Store

CONCORD — A man has been charged with attempted murder for shooting at a customer at a busy convenience store. Many other persons were nearby at the time but fortunately none of them were injured.
The shooting happened after the suspect got into an argument with the victim near gas pumps. The incident was recorded by surveillance cameras and witnessed by several individuals on August 17.
As the argument between the suspect and victim became heated, the suspect fired several rounds towards the victim. The suspect also took aim towards the victim’s vehicle.
The incident happened at the Bonfare Market located at 2800 Grant Street, near State Highway 242. The hullabaloo ended as quickly as it began. The suspect fled from the scene before responding officers arrived.
Concord police detectives identified the suspect as 28-year-old Anthony Heffelmire, a resident of Antioch. Heffelmire’s home was subsequently searched and he was arrested last month.
He was taken into custody without incident by Concord police with assistance from a SWAT team.
A revolver suspected of being used in the shooting incident was recovered as evidence. It is a Taurus Judge revolver, a short barrel weapon which is illegal to possess in California.
Heffelmire was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility. He remains in custody in lieu of $800,000 bond. His charges are attempted murder and possession of a short barrel shotgun.
