REDWOOD CITY — A local man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and other charges after an incident in the Kaiser Hospital emergency room lobby late last week.
Just after 6:30 AM on Friday, October 11, officers responded to reports of an active shooter and, within two minutes, had located the suspect in question.
56-year-old Thomas Smith had allegedly threatened an employee with a large knife and a handgun, though it was later determined that no one had been injured and no shots were fired. The gun also turned out to be a realistic replica.
Smith, for his part, dropped both the gun and knife upon officers’ commands and was arrested without further incident.
He was treated for a minor self-inflicted injury and then booked into the San Mateo County Jail.
