SAN JOSE – The San Jose Police Department has announced the arrest of a wanted homicide suspect in the Jan 26, 2019 homicide of 23-year-old Cruz Ayala.  The homicide was first reported when witnesses found Ayala shot near S. 10th St. and E. William St.  The suspect, a 19-year-old male, fled the scene and was presumed to be hiding in Mexico.

San Jose Police Homicide Investigators were able to piece together evidence that left no doubt that the person who had shot Ayala was Miguel Munoz-Huerta.  A break in the case came when Mexican authorities notified the US Marshals office that they had located the murder suspect and had taken him into custody.

According to San Jose Police Sergeant Enrique Garcia, “On October 31, 2019, Mexican authorities flew Munoz-Huerta to San Francisco International Airport and turned him over to the US Marshals Service.”

With the knowledge of his arrest and apprehension, Munoz-Huerta was then taken into custody by San Jose Homicide Investigators and booked into the Santa Clara County Main jail on PC 187 – Felony murder for the shooting death of Ayala.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Isidro Bagon or Detective Ramon Sanchez of the San Jose Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 408-277-5283.
