The Palm Springs Police Department recently issued this press release regarding a robbery suspect.
“On 11/12/2019 at approximately 1:45 pm, Officers from the Palm Springs Police Department saw a subject they knew was wanted for Robbery (PC211), walking in the area of S. Calle El Segundo and E. Ramon Road. The officers recognized the person as Juan Ortiz. Ortiz began running as soon as officers attempted to contact him. Ortiz ran through several gated neighborhoods.
A California Highway Patrol helicopter arrived to assist with the search. Additionally, several members of the community called the Palm Springs Police Department providing information as Ortiz ran through complexes. Ortiz was ultimately found in the area of Farrell Drive and Ramon Road where he ran into the parking lot of St. Theresa’s School. Ortiz further resisted arrest by fighting officers who were trying to detain him. Officers were able to place Ortiz into custody safely at 2:44pm without injury to him or the officers. St. Theresa’s School was placed on a temporary lock down as the events unfolded in their parking lot. There is no danger to the public or anyone inside St. Theresa’s related to this incident.
Ortiz was arrested for the Robbery Warrant and for the new charges of PC 148(a)(1) for resisting a peace officer.
Juan Ortiz is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
