PALO ALTO – A quartet of thieves entered the Macy’s at 180 El Camino Real and were thwarted by a helpful shopper who saw them at “work.”
On the afternoon of January 12, the “grab and run theft” occurred. The four suspects took armloads of clothing and shoes from the Macy’s store while a citizen filmed and then followed them.
Then one of the suspects spotted the watchful citizen and “lunged at her and kicked her in the buttocks.”According to the Palo Alto PD News release.
Finally, the four dropped some of what they had stolen along the way to their car. Officers received a description of them and their getaway car.
Before long officers spotted a car that matched the description of the one they had received, and stopped it at University Avenue and Donohoe Street.
In the vehicle they found stolen clothing, an estimated $5,000 worth of merchandise.
28-year-old Nicole Schrell Garner, 19-year-old Destiny Faith Shephard (both of Antioch), Haley Cheri King, and Janera Antonette Fraser (both 19-years-old and of East Palo Alto) were all arrested for retail theft, grand theft and possession of stolen property.
In addition, Fraser faces a charge of battery for kicking the witness.
