Oceano man arrested for attempted murder
Grover Beach Police officers arrested a man suspected of attempted murder last Tuesday.
According to police, officers took a crime report involving a serious domestic violence incident that occurred the evening before. Police say the investigation led them to a male suspect, Kelly Lee Freer, 32, of Oceano. According to police, Freer assaulted a female companion with a deadly weapon and attempted to murder her.
Police say Freer held the victim against her will and strangled her until she lost consciousness. When the victim regained consciousness, Freer attempted to suffocate her until she was able to fight her way free and flee from him. Police say Freer then left the area only to be tracked down and arrested on Wednesday during the early morning hours in Oceano.
Freer was charged with attempted murder, false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats. He is currently being held in the San Luis Obispo County Jail. His bail is set at a $500,000.
