Traffic stop leads to arrest of identity theft suspects in SLO County

A traffic stop in San Luis Obispo County led to the arrests of two people on suspicion of identity theft and other charges.
A Morro Bay police officer initially stopped Michael Mahoney (38) and Holly Mahoney (33) just after 8 PM on Saturday, February 1, for running a stop sign.
The officer soon discovered Michael Mahoney had outstanding warrants for his arrest and Holly a local felony warrant.
Additional officers responded and searched the vehicle, reportedly discovering stolen mail from local businesses, stolen credit cards, fake IDs, altered and counterfeit bank checks, and counterfeit $100 bills.
Both Mahoneys were booked on their outstanding warrants as well as suspicion of charges related to identity theft, possession of stolen property, and possession of counterfeit checks and currency.
