Kings County man allegedly fled from deputies because of open alcohol container

A Kings County man is in custody after allegedly running multiple stop signs and leading deputies on a high-speed pursuit.
Early Sunday evening, February 9, a deputy patrolling the area of 14th and Iona Avenues saw 39-year-old Seferino Zamudio speed through a stop sign and tried to pull him over. Zamudio sped away, turning east onto Highway 198 from 14th.
The pursuit continued at 85 MPH, with Zamudio refusing to yield at required stops for several more miles past Grangeville Boulevard, the Highway 43 intersection, and ultimately continuing into the town of Woodville in Tulare County.
Zamudio then abandoned the car near the 16500 block of Fulton Street and struck off on foot through several backyards, temporarily losing deputies.
A Kings County Air Unit quickly spotted him as he tried to hide, allowing deputies to catch him and take him into custody.
Zamudio reportedly told deputies during a brief interview that he’d had an open container of alcohol in the car and fled out of fear.
He remains in custody on $195,000 bond.
