UKIAH – On the morning of February 27th a fight occurred between two individuals and ” an aggressive pit bull” in the 1300 block of North State Street.
Responding deputies learned that 39-year-old Benjamin Klimpton and a 53-year-old male were in an argument in which Klimpton “commanded his pit bull to attack” the victim.
A deputy came into contact with Klimpton as he carried his put bull on his shoulders and did not obey the officer’s verbal commands. The suspect continued walking away.
Then Klimpton let his dog loose and the dog became aggressive to deputies, who then deployed pepper spray on the animal.
A Taser on Klimpton also did not have any affect on him as he continued to walk away with his dog.
However, a second go-round with the Taser worked and the suspect went down tot he ground. The dog ran away.
Once handcuffed, it was apparent Klimpton was under the influence of a controlled substance.
In addition to the fight that morning, the suspect also assaulted a 48-year-old male the night before, injuring the victim’s head.
The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office summarized, “As Deputies continued their investigation, they developed probable cause to believe Kimpton committed the crimes of 245(a)(1) PC (Assault With Deadly Weapon, Not Firearm), 148 PC (Resist Delay Peace Officer), 1203.2 PC (Revoke Probation), 11550(a) HS (Under Influence Controlled Substance),’ adding, “Kimpton was then booked into the Mendocino County Jail where he was held in lieu of $30,000.00 bail.”
