Lakeport Police have arrested a man on suspicion felony domestic battery and other charges after a stand-off in Lakeport last weekend.
Around 6 PM on Saturday, February 28, officers responded to the area of Armstrong Street to meet with a 47-year-old woman who said she’d been assaulted by her boyfriend, 39-year-old Micah K. Akima.
The victim, who had visible cuts and bruising on her face and bruises on her arms, told officers that Akima had thrown her to the ground and repeatedly kicked and stomped on her face, then taken her phone to keep her from calling for help. She was eventually able to escape through a a back door.
The woman also said Akima was still at the house and added that he is a former MMA fighter possibly suffering from a mental crisis. An Emergency Protective Order was put in place on the victim’s behalf.
Officers and Lake County deputies were initially unsuccessful at making contact with Akima, but later returned to the house and tried again. When they announced their presence and ordered Akima to come out, he chose to remain inside.
Officers and deputies eventually forced entry through the back door, at which point Akima fled out the front. He was at last detained without further incident.
He has since been booked on suspicion of felony domestic battery, false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, and preventing the summoning of 9-1-1.
