A Kings County man has been booked for possession of a stolen vehicle after reportedly showing up at a drilling company’s property in a stolen dump truck.
Just after 7 AM on March 2, a man identified as Luis Monroy (24) showed up to Myers Well Drilling on 2nd Avenue in Hanford in a 2015 Mack dump truck.
Puzzled by his sudden appearance, employees approached to find out why he was there but backed off when they noticed he was visibly agitated — behaving strangely and twitching, according to police.
When employees called the company whose info was displayed on the truck’s door, they learned it’d been stolen out of Fresno on February 28. At that point they called the Sheriff’s Office.
When responding deputies took Monroy into custody, he told them he’d been given the truck for free. In reality, the owner had left a key in a hidden box under the truck, which police believe Monroy found.
Monroy was quickly determined to be under the influence of a controlled substance, as well as being in possession of paraphernalia.
He was later booked at the Kings County Jail on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, being under the influence of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
