No Suspect, Motive in Saturday Night Killing In Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON – Investigators are still seeking clues that will lead them to a shooter who gunned down a Rialto man late Saturday night.

Deputies arrived shortly before midnight to find Joseph Anthony Rojas, 33, of Rialto, lying in the street and suffering from gunshot wounds. Rojas died at 12:25 a.m. on Sunday at the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in nearby Colton, having been transported there by ambulance. San Bernardino County spokeswoman Jodi Miller said detectives had not yet discovered a motive for the shootings, though Rojas was said to have attended a party in the area along Jurupa Ave., near Maple Ave.

Rojas’ body was found at the corner of Jurupa & Maple in Bloomington

Deputies were called to the scene on reports of gunshots and that a man was down. Detectives, said Miller, believe the shooting may be related to that party, which was held three houses away from the shooting. “We are asking anyone who may have been in the area,” she said, “or know anything to contact us.”

The intersection where Rojas was discovered is in a rural area that includes a few homes with large yards and fenced livestock. Investigators from the Fontana Sheriff’s Station were still gathering evidence well into Sunday, said Miller. Investigators were trying to piece together information that may have led to the shooting. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death, she said.

Bloomington is a city located about 10 miles from downtown San Bernardino. It is bordered by Colton and Fontana on the south side of Interstate 10.
