HAYWARD — A young man was arrested at home—where he allegedly murdered his father and attempted to murder his mother. The suspect is also accused of threatening to kill his sister.
This family tragedy took place on March 18 at approximately 11:30 pm. Hayward police initially received a report about an assault committed with a deadly weapon, but it was much worse.
Responding officers discovered a nightmarish scene inside a home located at 30866 Vanderbilt Street. A man and woman were found bleeding profusely from severe stab wounds.
Michael A. McCormack, 57, was pronounced dead not long afterward from stab wounds to his stomach. His 53-year-old wife Kristy L. East was transported to a hospital to receive treatment for a punctured lung.
Authorities believe 22-year-old William East-McCormack is responsible for stabbing his parents with a knife. He also allegedly threatened to kill his sister before running away from the family’s residence.
However, East-McCormack returned to the crime scene while officers were still conducting a preliminary investigation. He was detained and arrested at 1:23 a.m. on March 19.
The suspect was booked at Santa Rita Jail, where he remains in custody pending his arraignment on March 27.
East-McCormack must answer to multiple charges for what happened to his parents. His charges include murder, attempted murder, use of a deadly weapon and causing great bodily injury. In addition, he is charged with making criminal threats to his sister.
