“Chico – On 3/27/20, at 7:05 p.m. a broadside vehicle collision occurred on Main Street at E. 8th Street in Chico. The driver of a maroon BMW sedan collided with the passenger side of a fully-marked Chico P.D. patrol vehicle.
Both the driver of the BMW and the officer suffered complaints of pain only as a result of the collision. The BMW driver, identified as 28 year-old Anthony Squitieri from Chico, displayed symptoms of being under the influence of drugs at the collision scene.
He was transported to Enloe Medical Center for evaluation. Once he was medically cleared, he was arrested for DUI after an investigation was conducted by the Chico Police Department.
The California Highway Patrol assisted in the collision investigation. Preliminary findings as a result of the investigation show that Squitieri likely ran the red light while westbound on E. 8th Street at Main Street, striking the Chico Police vehicle as it travelled northbound on Main Street.
Squitieri was booked in the Butte County Jail for the violation of 23152(f) CVC; Driving Under the Influence of Drugs.
