Man Accused of Attempting to Murder a Gang Rival Several Times in One Day

ANTIOCH — A man is in custody ineligible for release on bond for allegedly driving around and shooting at a rival gang member. The suspect is accused of attempting to murder a rival several times in one day.
These shootings all occurred on March 17, and during one of the incidents the victim shot back at his attacker. Fortunately, no one was injured by any of this gunfire.
Apparently, the suspect first approached his victim at the Quik Stop convenience store, located at 1108 Sycamore Drive. From there, the suspect followed the victim, whom he perceived as being a rival gang member.
One shooting happened near the intersection of 18th and A streets. Another shooting happened on A Street. More shooting incidents occurred on G Street and on Peppermill Lane.
Investigators determined these shootings probably resulted from a territorial dispute between two rival street gangs.
Police identified the shooting suspect as 19-year-old Damorrel Calhoun who is a resident of Antioch. Calhoun was located and arrested by Antioch officers on March 23 without further incident. Calhoun presently faces charges for attempted murder and participating in a criminal gang to commit street terrorism. He remains in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility.
The unidentified victim was also arrested on the same day, but he was subsequently released and not charged with anything.
