Man arrested after stand-off with police at courthouse construction site

A San Jose man has been arrested after a stand-off with police at the still-under-construction courthouse in Redding.
Around 1 PM on Monday, March 30, police began receiving calls about a man threatening employees at the site of the new Shasta County Superior Court building on Court Street.
As officers were responding, the individual — identified as 29-year-old Tyler Case — climbed the structure of the building and began throwing tools off the top floor.
Officers quickly realized the state of the building itself was going to complicate things. At its current stage of construction, there were still numerous exposed steel beams, open walls, floor openings, and other hazards that would make it difficult to retrieve Case.
Nonetheless, they entered the structure and tried to talk him down. Though at first he refused, he eventually came down to the exterior edge of the second floor, where negotiations continued.
At some point, officers managed to implement a distraction, allowing them to grab hold of Case and pull him down.
Police say Case resisted violently but was subdued and taken into custody without further incident.
After arresting him, officers found three makeshift knives in Case’s possession. They also discovered he’s currently on probation out of Santa Clara County for assault with a deadly weapon.
He has since been booked at the Shasta County Jail on suspicion of brandishing a knife, obstructing, resisting, and threatening an officer, and possession of a concealed dirk or dagger.
