“Alturas, California, April 6, 2020 – For Immediate Release. On Monday, April 6, 2020, Modoc County Sheriff’s Deputies located a wanted felon, Edward Lawrence Birkenshaw, age 57 on Day Break Road. Birkenshaw had a felony warrant for his arrest for failure to appear on domestic violence charges and possession of a controlled substance. Deputies were called to the area because it was reported that Birkenshaw was suspected of violating the terms and conditions of a domestic violence restraining order.
When Sheriff’s Deputies located Birkenshaw, on Day Break Road, he refused to exit his vehicle and fled from the deputies. The deputies followed Birkenshaw to his residence where he exited his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Sheriff’s Deputies pursued Birkenshaw and as they attempted to take him into custody Birkenshaw struck one of the deputies in the head. Deputy K-9 “Rogue” was then deployed and assisted in taking Birkenshaw into custody. Birkenshaw was transported to an area hospital. Once released he will be booked into the Modoc County Jail on his original warrant and an additional charge of resisting an executive officer by force or violence.”
